1. Concept and vision: Creating a unique cover
For many years, I was planning to do a photoshoot with Daniel Brühl, but I didn’t know how I reach out to such a busy celebrity and convince him to stand in front of my camera. one time when I was talking with a fashion stylist friend and telling her about my Idea, she said me Daniel Brühl played a role in a series called Becoming Karl Lagerfeld.
This conversation motivated me to make a concept and offer it to magazine editors. After making my mood board, I sent it to many magazines, and finally L’Officiel Hommes Austria accepted my concept. After so many organizations, I created this photo series with International German celebrity, Daniel Brühl.
2. Location and Lighting: Creating perfect light that fits Daniel’s Character and my concept
One of the most important factors in photography and image-making is lighting. Soft or dramatic light, the angel of the light, all together having personality for the subject. Our location was The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin, I decided to be minimalist with the background. When the background is not busy, all focus is on the face and personality of Daniel.
3. Giving trust and comfort in front of the camera: working with international celebrity
Shooting with international celebrities, making trust and communication is the key. However most of them have been standing in front of photo or video cameras for many years. But still, they need to get the mood and vibes of the shoot and communicate with the camera and photographer.
4. Photography: Shooting with international German Celebrity, Daniel Brühl
Photographing with celebrities has its difficulties and tricks because of the time. Most celebrities have less time and as a photographer, I needed to be as quick as I could. Because of this, I asked my Professional model friend GORAN JURENEC to help me. Goran Helpd me as a test model, I did my lighting test with him. In this case, I was ready and needed to focus on getting the best picture from Daniel Brühl.
5. Post-production: Photo selection and retouching
After the photo shooting, the magazine editor did the photo selection and sent them to artist management for confirmation. I did post-production and retouching myself, I had to finish all the retouching in 1 day. I was sitting in front of the computer and editing for 14 Hours.
6. The result: Cover tells the story
The November cover of L’Officiel Hommes Austria is more than just an image. The final photo of Daniel Brühl is not just a testament to his career but to the art of portraiture. With 25 years of experience in photography, I am so proud to be part of this amazing project.
