When photography was invented, the Camera was an Expensive tool, that’s why normal people couldn’t afford to buy it. For this reason, the first camera was imported from abroad by the Iranian Government. One of the first Iranian photographers was Aqa Riza Iqbal al-Saltana (Reza Akkas Bashi). He was traveling with Naser al-Din Shah Qajar and photographing his trips. From the historical references, the first (foreigner)photographer in Iran was Jules Richard, who was working as a French language teacher in Iran.

After Reaza Akkas Bashi, Naser al-Din Shah learned the technique of photography and started to photograph people in his court.

The father of modern photography and the founder of photography in Iran is Hadi Shafaieh(هادی شفائیه), who was born in Tabriz on August 15, 1923. At first, He worked in a pharmacy with his brother after taking pharmacy courses in Istanbul, but due to his strong interest in photography, he held the first photography classes in Iran and also opened the Hadi studio in 1965.
